Reliance Jio’s 4G phone to price is Rs 500; will be launched in August

#Reliance #Jio growth was exponential in the initial months of its launch but has gradually slumped. As per April 2017, the Mukesh Ambani-led company registered over 112 million subscribers. One of the biggest hurdles the company faces is the limited number of 4G-capable phones in the country. However, with what Jio has planned next the number might go way beyond the existing user-base.

According to a report by The Economic Times, Reliance Jio might soon launch a 4G feature phone priced at just Rs 500. Earlier reports suggested that these devices will be priced between Rs 999 to Rs 1,500 but this new report claims that the company will be subsidizing the phone to make the device cheaper and more accessible to the lower end of the consumer base.

The report suggests that Jio has already placed orders for around 18-20 million 4G feature phones with Chinese manufacturers namely, Zhejiang Techain Electronics Technology Co., Shenzhen CHINO-E Communication Co, Crave and Megaphone. The shipments could begin as early as the end of this month or the first half of next month.

We are not sure if these subsidized phones will be launched as a part of an offer from Reliance Jio or will be stand alone devices. Considering that the company will be subsidizing about two-thirds of the actual cost of the device, there is a high chance that the 4G feature phone will come bundled with a Reliance Jio connection. A similar model is followed in most developed countries where carriers tie-up with manufacturers to drastically bring down the prices of the handset.

Along with the device, the company is also expected to launch cheaper data plans, reducing the average revenue per user (ARPU). The new plans can go as low as Rs 80 to Rs 90.

Since Reliance Jio’s Dhan Dhana Dhan offer is also coming to an end, the company might make an announcement regarding the new plans to either replace them or apply standard charges instead.

Liquid Nitrogen – A new Danger

According to a report in Hindustan Times, two months ago, a 30-year-old who downed a fancy “smoking” shot did not realise that the drink was to be consumed only after the smoke dissipated. In fact, he consumed two.

Just after consuming the drink the man began to experience extreme pain in his stomach accompanied by breathlessness, and had to be immediately rushed to a hospital in Gurgaon.

Upon examining the man, the doctors decided that surgery was necessary and once they opened him up, they realised the extent of the damage caused. According to the report, his stomach “was open like a book”.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, was quoted by HT saying, “I gulped down the drink, I started feeling very uncomfortable, like how you feel when there is an acid reflux. The bartender passed me another drink and I had it, not thinking too much about the discomfort. However, within seconds, my stomach started swelling and I was in unbearable pain. Breathing was also difficult.”

How did this happen?

The drink that he had consumed was covered with liquid nitrogen. Why? Liquid nitrogen has a boiling point of -196 degrees Celsius. Hence it is used for a variety of things, such as a coolant for computers, in medicine to remove unwanted skin, warts and pre-cancerous cells, and in cryogenics, where scientists study the effect of very cold temperatures on materials. But apart from all the medical and scientific uses, liquid nitrogen has also become a popular gastronomic tool.

Restaurants and bars use liquid nitrogen as a method for instantly freezing food and drinks, or creating and clouds of vapour or fog when exposed to air. Of course, caution should be maintained. When used to freeze drinks, these should only be consumed after the nitrogen has completely evaporated.

According to John Emsley of the Royal Society of Chemistry in England, “If you drank more than a few drops of liquid nitrogen, certainly a teaspoon, it would freeze, and become solid and brittle like glass. Imagine if that happened in the alimentary canal or the stomach. The liquid also quickly picks up heat, boils and becomes a gas, which could cause damage such as perforations or cause a stomach to burst.”

While the use of liquid nitrogen is permitted as an additive in frozen food as per the guidelines of the national regulatory body Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), there are no definitive guidelines set for it, especially in terms of safety.

“There is no clear-cut guideline for it and generally it is considered to be a novel technique, which can be used by food business operators,” said Dr Saurabh Arora of FoodSafetyHelpline.

The aftermath

The patient, when he was admitted, had an abnormally swollen stomach, and his heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation were well away from optimum conditions. Surgery revealed a huge perforation in the middle and the lower parts of the man’s stomach.  Since it was not possible to stitch it back, as the tissue near the tear was too damaged, the doctors removed the damaged portion of the stomach and connected his stomach to the remaining part of the small intestine.

Post the surgery, the patient had to be kept on a ventilator for three days, but thankfully he has since recovered.

“Consuming liquid nitrogen can cause havoc in a person’s system. By nature, liquid nitrogen expands manifolds and evaporates when left at room temperature. The gas did not have an escape route after the person consumed it and the sphincter closed, this is what led to a perforation in his stomach,” said Dr Amit Deepta Goswami of Columbia Asia Hospital in Gurgaon, where the man was taken to.

Internet banking and debit/credit cards of authorized banks

Step 1:   User will have to log in to the website of GST or there is option to pay taxes without log in like in present service tax payment system.

Step 2: If User choose to log in then the basic details will get automatically filled. Otherwise user will have to fill the basic details if wants pay taxes without registration.

Step 3: After that user will have to fill the tax details.

Step 4: User has the option to save the challan and fill it at later. A saved challan can be edited before finalization.

Step 5: Then the user will generate the challan for payment. The challan will have 14-digit unique code (CPIN) to identify it.

The challan will have unique CPIN number. User will have log in to their bank account and make the payment using the CPIN number by NEFT/RTGS.

Challan correction mechanism

The payment procedure is not difficult and seems to be very simple as it is with various current tax payment systems like income tax, TDS, service tax etc. The user face difficulties when some error is made by the user like choosing the wrong section for payment or furnishing wrong details like assessment year etc. To correction mechanism of these mistake should be easy and simple.

  • Error in goods and service tax identification number (GSTIN): These type of error are made by representative (like CA) paying tax on behalf of taxpayer. Since taxpayer can directly pay tax by logging in, where the chances of wrong  GSTIN are zero. Whereas the representative can directly pay tax on behalf of taxpayer from GST website without logging in.  There is no correction mechanism provided for these type of error and the representative will be responsible for such errors.
  • Error in major heads: As we know the GST will be divided between central and state governments so right head should be mentioned in the challan. It is proposed to permit banks to rectify such errors before the end of the day during which the amount has been received by the bank.
  • Error in total amount: If the amount paid is in excess of the liability, then there is a mechanism for refund or credit forward of the excess paid amount. No correction mechanism in the challan is needed.

Steps to Link Aadhaar Card with PAN In Minutes.

Steps To link Aadhaar card with PAN card, the Income Tax Department has launched a new facility to complete the process quickly. The government, under the Finance Act 2017, has made it mandatory for taxpayers to quote Aadhaar or enrolment ID of Aadhaar application form for filing income tax returns (ITR). Also, Aadhaar has been made mandatory for applying for PAN or permanent account number with effect from July 1, 2017. “Taxpayers are requested to use the simplified process to complete the linking of Aadhaar with PAN immediately. This will be useful for E-Verification of Income Tax returns using OTP sent to their mobile registered with Aadhaar,” the Income Tax Department said in an email to taxpayers.

Here’s the process to link Aadhaar with PAN in 10 steps:

1) The income tax department’s e-filing website – – has a new link on its homepage for connecting Aadhaar with PAN of a taxpayer.

3) The link requires a person to key in his or her PAN number, Aadhaar number and the “exact” name as mentioned on the Aadhaar card.

5) The OTP will be sent on the registered mobile number of the individual as provided in the Aadhaar database.

6) The Income Tax Department has urged taxpayers to ensure that details like date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar are exactly the same, to ensure linking without failure. (Also readAadhaar-enabled payments double)

7) In rare cases where the name mentioned on the Aadhaar card is completely different from that on PAN, the linking attempt will fail and the taxpayer will be prompted to change the name in either of the two databases, the tax department said.

8) The tax department introduced the new simplified system after receiving complaints that taxpayers who had used initials in one and full name in the other were not able to link the two unique identities.

9) The tax department also said that the facility to link Aadhaar is also available after logging into the e-filing website under the Profile.

10) Till now over 1.18 crore Aadhaar numbers have been linked with PAN database, a report by news agency Press Trust of India said.
